Full Description

"Many bluestriped grunts were visually observed at the site by day and produce pulsed sounds similar to the pulses of the detected sounds. However, this is a very gross comparison, and expert opinion was inconclusive. Suggestions were followed up by more targeted reference recording searches and comparisons, however, without quality reference recordings or abundance data for species at the site, identification possibilities were very limited."

Observation Environment Quotes

"MPAM was conducted at a site near the Cancún MPA for 1 yr. The recording site was just north of Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo, Mexico (21°17´37˝N, 86°45´10.2˝W) with a depth of 13 m (Fig. 1). The site was part of the same coral barrier reef as the protected area “Costa Occidental de Isla Mujeres,” part of the national park “Parque Nacional Costa Occidental de Isla Mujeres, Punta Cancún y Punta Nizuc.”"
